In March, the Hugo Good Neighbors Food Shelf participated in the Minnesota FoodShare program. During Food Share Month, the food shelf carefully tracks donations, reporting figures to the Greater Metropolitan Council of Churches. This aids in securing crucial financial support for area food shelves, including Hugo’s.
In 2024, donations are tracking behind, but the food shelf remains committed to providing consistent services within the community. “While we continue to see stable support, there is still a slight urgency for people to keep helping us any way they can,” said President Chris DuFresne.
The food shelf ensures quality service throughout the year by recruiting volunteers, seeking financial donations for food purchases, and collaborating with local grocery stores to provide prepackaged food bags for purchase, benefiting clients directly. Financial contributions from community members and businesses are important in helping the food shelf to provide clients with fresh produce, dairy, and meat.
Donations can be made online or via mail, bolstering efforts to support Hugo’s community discreetly and with dignity. Contributions can be made online at hugofoodshelf.org/give/ or via mail to Hugo Good Neighbors Food Shelf, P.O. Box 373, Hugo, MN 55038.
