In October, the Hugo Good Neighbors Food Shelf held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Night to thank the dedicated volunteers who make its mission possible. Volunteers play a vital role in providing food assistance to families while maintaining their dignity. In 2022, volunteers served an average of 118 families monthly—an increase of 97% from the previous year—and distributed more than 138,000 pounds of food.
During the event, board members and staff expressed gratitude for the volunteers’ commitment and compassion. The president of HGNFS, Chris DuFresne, emphasized the volunteers’ essential role, stating they are the “heartbeat” of the organization. This event highlighted the power of community and collective action in making a positive impact, encouraging others to join or support the cause.
